Ludwig Superclassic Strainer Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi there! I do own a 1966 Ludwig SuperClassic Snare. I have attached a picture of the Strainer (WFL). I am well aware that because of the "normal" Ludwig anomalies the strainer may well be original to the drum (i tried to put on a 1960s strainer once, didn't fit).

But: is the handle original?! Doesn't look very much like it. If it is not, does anyone have an original handle for sale? (I tried to put on the handle from the 1960s strainer as well, didn't fit...) I am trying to get the drum in original shape... thanks!!!

Doesn't look original to me. It looks a lot like the handle off of a Trick strainer.

Here is what the real deal should look like although I think there were a couple of slightly different versions.

Google: My Old Kentucky Drums. Great guy to deal with, reliable, good inventory, reasonable prices. He has an excellent inventory of vintage Ludwig parts and doo-dads. Give him a hollar.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

@*"thin shell" yes, I thought so, that it's not original. looks like it's been there a while though, so i don't think it's a part of a TRICK Strainer, although they're similar.

@ "Purdie Shuffle": Thanks for the hint. just emailed him, waiting for a reply now. thought about a full new strainer, but that'd be quite cost intensive i think.

Ludwig still makes this strainer and they sell the handle as a spare part.

Drums on Sale appears to have them for $9.02 The Ludwig part number is p-10211.

You are missing a couple of parts.

The bushing p/n p-10932

The brass bushing P/N p-11062

You are also missing the cross rod at the bottom but that could be made pretty easily if someone can provide you a picture.

and of course the mounting screws.

Here is the Ludwig spare parts catalog. One of the benefits of Ludwig being the oldest surviving American drum company is that they still make al ot of the same stuff they have for decades.

Page 40 (22 of the pdf) has the P-87/Classic strainer.

Edit: I had the wrong link. This one is correct.
