So I went to look at a Premier kit earlier today and the owner also pulled out the snare drum that he played with the kit. It was a Ludwig snare, with the shell (including the Ludwig badge) painted over to match the finish of the Premier kit. He explained that he wasn't the one who did the "artwork" but that it was already done at the time he purchased the kit. Anyway he was throwing the snare in with the kit as part of the sale.
I'm trying to properly identify and date the snare drum. The serial number on the badge appears to be 1596291 from what I can tell under the reddish paint. I believe that would date the drum to around 1978. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I initially believed that the drum was a Super Sensitive model but, being unfamiliar with them, I'm not sure whether the strainer is correct. I'm hoping that the pics I've posted will help someone out there properly identify and date this one. The snare wires don't seem to fit on this drum either. I'm assuming one of the prior owners purchased the wrong size wires. These seem too long. The actual snare wire "piece" is about 18" long, while the wires themselves are about 16" in length. I'll provide a separate posting to show how they extend too far on this 14" snare drum. I apologize for the cosmetic condition of the drum in the pics. I haven't had the time as of yet to give it it's much needed "bath."
As usual, thanks in advance for your time and your help!
