once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The top rim is warped because it is missing 2 of the things that tighten it on.

Those are called tension rods. I have never seen a floor tom (or any drum for that matter) with these lugs or tension rods.

Your pedal looks like it has two separate brackets that can hold a beater. I had something similar not too long ago. In researching the pedal, I found that the 2 beater positions allowed the drummer to choose between striking the head in the center or a couple inches off center. I've never tried it, but I suppose the sound produced by each beater position would be different. I believe you have a Super Speed King. The pedal may have also originally included a metal arm on the right with a ball-type tip. This was used to strike a small cymbal that would have been mounted near the bass drum head.

See it here: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/pedal_16.html

This find is simply amazing.

More photos:

#1) 1 more metal cymbal stand that will clip onto base drum; 1 wood stick marked"WFL Drum CO. 5A" and Cardello Drumcenter"; 2 nylon tipped wood sticks are marked "Prosonic Hickory 3A Nylon Tip, made in USA"; 2 wood sticks tipped with electrical tape have no markings; Wire brush stick handle is completely wrapped in electrical tape.

#2) inside of bass drum showing interior light. Looks like the light was moved over a couple of inches because you can see where it was originally mounted. You can also see a couple of loose washers and screws that are sliding around in there too.

#3) I don't know what this is but this is an extra one plus another photo of the brush stick.

#4) Detail of one of the discs on one of the cymbals

#5) Suitcases that some of the items were stored in. I love the rope handle on the fiberboard black suitcase. You can also see the very scary home made extension cord that was used for the light in the base drum.

Great find! I'm old enough to remember "plugging in" the snare drum to keep the humidity (at outdoor concerts especially) from detuning the calfskin heads, and can still remember the introduction of modern plastic heads. Yep, I guess this makes me old as dirt, but ohh the memories!

More snare photos:

#1) marking on top skin

#2) marking on bottom skin

#3) not sure what you call this but it looks like how you make adjustments to the snare

#4) Not sure what you call this but it holds the other side of the snare. There is also an odd screw that is holding it together that does not look original to the drum. How hard is it to get the correct replacement?

That's it for all the photos. I want to thank everyone for all the great info and help in identifying our yard sale treasure. It is now obvious to us that this belongs in the hands of a serious collector who can take care of it in the manner it should be. We won't be doing anything more than dusting it off until we decide how to go about selling it.

Thanks again for your input.

No, Leave it as is, let your buyer do the dusting and whatever. (that`s what they`re after) They`re gonna want to see the dirt dust and ageing !!
