Just to prove that I don't hate Ludwig drums even though I don't like them for my own use, here's a Craigs List ad that seems like a good deal for Vistalite lovers.

That does look like a very good deal for someone who's into Vistalites. I'm not partial to them, myself. I prefer the 3-ply Ludwig sound when it comes to Ludwig drums. But, in all honesty, most all vintage drums I hear sound good to me. That deal is "clearly" a good one (heh heh heh)Mister T

I have to agree with you about the sound of almost all vintage drums that I hear. My preferences for the vintage drums have more to do with how they feel to me. Does that make any sense to anyone other than me?

Oh, yeah! The FEEL is part of the sound, to me.....because it's what makes you hit the drums a certain way. I couldn't agree more!

The first professional level drum set I ever laid hands on was a Ludwig Standard in Ruby Strata. It had Weathermaster heads on it and they were well worn. but the feel was so much more bouncy and comfortable on my hands, it's the feel I've loved ever since. I've played Leedy snare drum that I liked, too. The only snare drum that I could NOT get to feel right was a Rogers Dynasonic from 74-75 era. I lived with that drum for years and tried everything -no go. But when I returned to my 3-ply drums, they just melted in my hands! yes, indeed...feel is absolutely a factor in my love of vintage drums!Burger Kin

Funny that you should mention the Dynasonic snare. My first pro level drum set that I ordered from the music store was a 1961 Rogers Holiday set with a matching wood Holiday snare drum. I tried the Dynasonic many times over the years with negative thoughts about the model. I was a rep for Rogers drums for the last five years that CBS owned the line. I sold tonnage of Dynas, and never liked a single one of them. However, I loved the Powertones and all wood shell models including the student models.
