Man, those are gorgeous Mark!
Now, please don't take this the wrong way, brother, but...if those heads are giving you that much trouble, I'd start looking at some thing else...if it takes that much moon gel to control the overtones, maybe some 2 ply or maybe try one or two Z-100 Aquarians. I am running an Evans EQ-1 on my thin 22" bass and it packs wallop, unlike the Ambassador which had a thin, metallic, rather annoying sound to it, almost like a cheap clear single ply head. I, personally, have decided to try other heads and get away from Remo, unless there is a reason to go with them. I have been having ringing and unwanted overtones with them. Please understand, this is all personal experience and your mileage may vary, but that much moon gel spells issues. I am not experiencing any overtones, and only slight ringing on the snare, but that is from the bottom hoop, I think with the Aquarian heads. You can get them cheap enough from here: http://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15_118_433
You may need to call Aquarian or have your drum shop get in touch with them for these heads, and they do offer up to a 22", I think.

Oh man that is a great set up right there! Do they blend well sound wise together as a set?
I will partially echo Jonnistix here Acquarian heads are awesome, but I wouldn't call 6 Moongels on the bass drum much muffling at all hahaha. wait 5 moongels haha

Just one makes a huge difference on my drums. I do use them on my floor tom, it as no internal muffler, nor does my 13. I may remedy that later on though, as it would be era correct.
Still, those are awesome drums, and I'll bet they do blend, as they are all Slingerland/Leedy/L&L, all similarly made shells during that era, plus the Gretsch...is that 20" bass a 3 ply or 6 ply? Not that I think it mattered all that much with Gretsch since the 3 and 6 ply are the same thickness shell, just the veneers of the 6 ply are thinner.

I've wondered what a combined set would look and sound like, as it's probably the closest that I'll get to a vintage American kit since selling my 67 Ludwigs. I think all the wraps, although different, are still similar enough for me, and I believe, like guitars, there are no 2 drums that sound exactly the same.
Also, until now, I have never even heard of moongels (?)which underscores the fact that I am very new to the details that are discussed on this forum, and that is precisely why I am here! Over the course of the few weeks since discovering this site, I have learned volumes from you guys!
