I just bought a huge early 70's 8 piece Ludwig concert tom kit in white in wood shells. i could not pass them up but what do i do with them? Is there a market for these kits or is it possible to add lugs and hoops to the bottom half of a few sheels and make a fun cheap kit.

Thanks!

Well, they are yours now to do with as you please. Are they 3 or 6 ply shells? White Cortex? And concert toms? Sounds like another Octa-Plus kit.

I think it is a octa-plus kit. It is white cortex on 6 ply shells. Early blue/olive badges. A few cymbal stands and some old Zildjian cymbals too. There are nine shells including the snare. I am not a fan of the concert toms sound and look and i read a thread where someone added lugs and hoops on another forum. Is that really an option?

An option yes,but an expensive one.You will probably have to get bearing edges cut on all thore drums and have to buy lugs, rims, and tension rods. Not a cheap proposition.Hang on to them as is...single head concert toms and bass drums are making a comeback.Canopus and OCPD and a few other custom builders are offering them now.

I picked up the kit last night and the bottom of the toms have the bearing edge and i am goint to use some of the smaller drums lugs and tension rods to complete other drums (who needs a 9 piece kit). The best part is the 24" bass is a virgin drum. The end result will be a 24", 14", 16", 18". This will be close to free! I will post pics when completed.

Thanks!!!!

If you have 5 1/2X6 & 5 1/2X8 toms you wont have the space to line up the bottom lugs with the top lugs unless you off-set them, assuming you want to make them double-headed.

I'm with you joe i say hold on to them they will and starting to make a comeback , Cutting up that kit and adding lugs will kill any real value of that kit may have in it's original condition . I got my CT kit and i just love them to death but i also have many kits to change things up with differents bands
