Help me with this Rogers. Date? Value? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi.

I do not know lot about Rogers...

But I found those for sale, Big R ( it mean 1976 -> ???), and from catalogs I understaind that it could be a Londoner 8 ( 24"kick, 12, 13, 14, 15" racktom and 18" floortom incl , according to seller, "Steel Rogers snare" ( perhaps Dynasonic???) )

But I could read around that at some date point "Rogers is no more Rogers"....

They mean all Big R?

Or when they move manufacturing from USA ( What year that happend?) ?

What year could those be made?

Is this "Realy Rogers"?

Value?

They are come incl box, heads is bad, (according to seller) , no stands ( shellpack incl "steel snare" ).

In Sweden, I am coming from, USA drums cost MORE than over there.

Guys want 650$ . And thats what usaly used a Pearl Export with cheap cymbals cost.

If you find a Vintage Ludwig under 1300$, thats realy cheap.

But it´s not so usaly with Rogers here, so it´s difficult to guess a price.

So for 650$ , when you talk vintage , you can buye a nice Stencil kit , in good shape, but no USA drums ( if you are not extremly lucky to find something that seller dont know what it is)

What are you thinking?

FIrst, make sure the badges say USA on them. Can't tell from pictures. Import "Rogers in name only" sets were in early 80's - not worth the money.

If they want $650 USD and are already in in Sweden - get them. Otherwise shipping from US will be couple hundred USD as well.

Hard to tell from pictures, but Rogers XP8 shells had clear interiors. These are excellent shells. One of the floor toms appears to have clear interior. Other floor tom looks like maybe grey interior. Still good, just earlier shell. Maybe some shells were added later in the game if not all the same interior finish.

EDIT - seems to have the correct Rogers USA spurs on the bass drum. Import shells had Pearly type spurs.

I got few more pictures from seller, and better description..

Serie nr and clear/gray interior:

Basdrum: D713346, -Can not see interior

12": Nothing - Clear interior

13": D714942, -Gray interior

14": D713397, - Gray interior

15": Nothing -Clear interior

18": D713305. _Gray interior

No rust. But have to reglue wrap on some places.

Bearing Eges, he said , are ok.

Some ding och basdrum hoops. It seems to be some older Tama baspedal inculding.

I got pic on badges, it says Rogers, USA, on all toms.

But not MADE in USA ?!?!?!

I realy dont find those wrap nice, att all... And I have enought with drums , for my needs. But if the snare is Dynasonic, it´s may be so good deal, that I can not miss it, or?

How "good" are those Rogers????

If it was Rogers from 60:s, I would know, that value is more than the double. But those?

Those are USA made Rogers Drums.

I can tell by the badge shape, and now you have supplied numbers.

The set is 24, 13, 14, 18. Those drums are from the late 1976/into 1977 year.

The 12, and 15 are add on drums, manufactured aprox. 1980/81.

In sweeden, 650 is probably not a bad price.

Since some grey, and with Serial nummber, and the others without, it must be as you said, added later.

XP8 vs "ordinary" ? Only gray intreior make that differnece, or ply constructions?

Is this Dynasonic?

Guys have some hoops, but he is not shure if they fit ...?!?!

And is there not a big part , för stainer, missing?

And toms/basdrum, XP8 (two clear) vs "ordinary" (rest gray painted)? Only gray intreior make that differnece, or ply constructions?

So what guys are you thinking, what is set worth?

The snare looks like a 1976 or later dyna,it has a specially made bottom rim,and snare frame like this http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/rogers_snare_drums/1976_rogers_snaredrums1.jpg if you have to replace those it would probably cost 50.00 to 85.00 for the frame, the rim around 50.00 , puresound replacement wires are about 50.00 at least in the U.S. Big R 5x14 complete dynas go for around 250.00 to 325.00 depending on condition and the day.So figure that into your decision. Those are still way better than any export kit,and U.S.A rogers generally clean up very nicely, that kit in the U.S. is 400.00 to 600.00 but I would say closer to the high side because of the traditional sizes and 24 kick. The rogers 24 kicks are huge sounding in my experience.Rogers drums have a certain feel to them that I dig,and the grey int drums have a sound that is in between 60's vintage and and a modern kit.If you could, I would go play them and if you like them make an offer based on condition and how much of the dynasonic is there.

Looks like a Dyna missing the rail. It is a COB, not a steel snare. So it cannot hurt to go, cash in and, and make an offer to him. Take what he is asking and negotiate, offer a hundred less, citing the missing expensive snare rail, which you will get from ebay. All he can do is take the money, counter offer or say he is firm on his price. Those will be way better than "a nice stencil" from Japan. Those are some decent drums, if you want a USA made kit on the cheap. Not quite a 3 ply Ludwig or Slingerland, but good drums none the less. NEGOTIATE!!!!
