Beautiful CM shell pack! I hope it sells for an extremely high amount of money to someone who can easily afford to pay for it. That's the direction I want to see vintage drum prices going -UP!

Last week, it was a Mod Orange shell pack -went for over $4200.00. LOVE it!

With prices finally starting to move in the right direction, I just might be tempted to sell off a few pieces of my own. :D

I could not agree with you more than I already do. I would love to see vintage drum selling prices soar sky high. But, naturally, I will hunt for the bargains or drums in need of some loving rehabilitation.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Yeah, I'm hoping vintage prices will rise as well... but give me a chance to stock up first! Still got a bit of storage space left in my basement... not much, but I know how to stack. Still looking for the bargains in the meantime - been finding a few. :)

You got GREAT money for the drums then. That was 18 years ago. NOBODY cared about vintage drums back in those days (except for some guy in Germany ;)). I sold my Big R black cortex 13/16/22 + COB Dyna and all Memriloc stands for $700.00 in 1995. They were great drums. I made lots of money from playing gigs with them and I am more than happy with the fact that they sold for what they did that long ago.

I beg to differ......

I was flipping stuff all over the world back then!

Lots to England, Japan....sent a Gretsch drumset to Australia around that time also.

The reason why that set is going so high is rarity. Citrus is probably the most rare finish on Ludwigs. Then it looks cool. SO rarity drives the value up. On a Black Oyster Pearl ("Ringo" color) set, they produced many, many in that finish, but because Ringo played that color, there are many, many people who want drums in that color, in which case it isn't rarity but desirability that drives value up.

Blair, I also had a Mod Orange set (rare but not nearly as rare as Citrus Mod) that was a 12/13/16/22 set and it was a '68 model. It had the block LUDWIG on the post mount just like those do, except it was transitional in terms of the interiors: One of the drums had white painted the others were clear maple. So I am guessing by my experience that Citrus set is probably period-correct, even though it is the later clear interior it is still a post mount that is within an acceptable date range for the drums.
