From MIKEY777

Ok guys a follow up on the drum..When i was talking to the guy over the phone-[on sunday]- about the drum i did ask if you could re-move one of the heads and tell me if he could see Green in the finish.Well he did see green so that would make the drum Citrus mod i told him i would take it for 350.00 on Monday. So i called him back Monday and when i was on the phone with him someone came by and offered him the 350.00 for it with the guy right their with the money in hand iam about 250 miles from him he went ahead and SOLD it to the guy saying that he was not sure i would take the drum....Mikey

And what sux about this??? It was likely one of us, the respondent to this very thread...but not me. I live far too far away to make it an afternoon jaunt.

That sux. Someone read this post, went over there with the exact intention of building up "restored/rewrapped in vintage" C/M....all on our suggestion. But, it was a genius thought, to take an old marcher and use the wrap for uber numbers of "re-wrapped" Pioneers.

Watch ebay boys, someone is going to be selling off, under a "newbie name" "My Grandpas' old yeller drum...it says Ludwing???...I ain't no drummer, but he said it was some kinda rare color...can someone tell me about it...an' I think it's ugly as sin the mornin' after, but he shore loved it..."

They will show up in three weeks, watch. And, they may even show up as "original" C/M Pioneer student drums, from my high school daze of smokin' whacky weed..."

I've got a bad feeling about this. The shell? It'll be on esplay next week, looking for some new home without any wrap, and likely will go for some stupid amount because it's a "Ludwinger" in maple Thermo-gloss...some good ol' boy name of Bonehand or sumpthin' used to own this drum...own a peace of Ludwing history!"

PLEASE TAKE THE ABOVE STATEMENT(S) WITH A GRAIN OF SALT AND A SHOT OF RYE...I AM ONLY TRYING TO LIGHTEN THE MOOD, YET PLACE A WELL DESERVED WARNING...

Why would he re-wrap Pioneers, when JazzFests are worth so much more?

I still think it looks like mod orange. Even still that is a pretty rare beast. Since most of those drums were used outside I would bet that any marching drums in those colors would be faded to hell!

There was a Ludwig citrus mod downbeat snare last week on ebay that sold for over 3K.Granted the wrap was stated to be original, but there are some very clever and educated forgers out there. The guy just shows up with 350 in hand? And maybe another 350 in the other pocket.

Sounds like the buyer was highly motivated. He wasn't walking away without that drum.

Forum member..?Maybe.If I was a betting man,I'd take that action.

Sorry for insisting it was citrus mod Mikey,I feel like I blew this deal for you...but now we know for sure, that it was.

Yup. It's a two-edged sword sometimes. This forum is very useful when it comes to the proper identification of vintage drums. We always try to be accurate in our assessments. But, when you have lots of trained eyes looking at drums here, it makes it nearly impossible to "sneak one by". Besides, we're not here to throw anyone off-track when it comes to identification, so there is no "blowing the deal" for anyone.

Yes Jonnistix, You are maybe right on this. But i don't see a forum member or a real collecter doing that to this drum..The big question is Why? I would just leave the drum alone the way it was made...Mikey

Mikey...you and I would, but look what some clown did to a RK kit that was discussed on this forum in the last 2 weeks. The guy stated that he kept then in original condition and only giged them on special occasions. That says to me they probably looked pretty good.He then stated "I just can't leave anything alone"and butchered what was probably a great old vintage set of drums.

These is a Ludwig snare on ebay right now, rewrapped in vintage mod orange I believe.Where did the wrap come from?So there are guys who don't know.Guys that do know, and guys that do know but just don't care.If they can make a buck by using old wrap, and by stripping a perfectly good drum and sell every piece down to lug screws seperately..thats what they do.I'm not talking about a drum that has issues, and would best be put to use in helping to revive another vintage drum.We all need parts from time to time.I'm talking about the guy who has no intention about selling that kit or drum intact..He knows he can make the most by parting it out,he will get the most bang for the buck.

Thats the guy who I think bought that drum.I hope I'm wrong....but I think I,m not.Hopefully that drum is in a collection right now or on its way to Japan.
