No need to "try" my friend... you got it right! :-D

My favorite Swivo pedal is a transitional one from immediately before the Supreme pedal introduction. The pedal does not require the separate hoop clamp attachment for the bass drum. The front of the pedal clamps down on the bass drum hoop with a single lever. This is the major evolutionary change from Swivo to Supreme pedal aside from the Supreme getting a new design of foot board as well.
Your pedal is quite legitimate/real. I've been playing a Swivo-Matic exclusively for years... the Buddy influence for sure! You are correct with regard to "subtle changes" over the years too. Most all Swivo-Matics don't actually say Swivo-Matic as leedybdp has stated... they simply say Rogers, and the additional Made in USA/Pat. Pend. on the 1st models. ( on the footboard either hinged or solid ) All this said... you do have the UPGRADED swivel-unit on yours, so that indicates a slightly later model, and, you WANT the upgraded swivel-unit too as that stops the "ripping" of the connecting rod from heel to the base. The earliest models had a swivel-unit that wasn't at all durable... Rogers fixed it with the one you have on yours. As far as models... only two:The #395 w/solid footboard, and the #396 w/hinged footboard... everything else being equal/same.Buddy did indeed play his Rogers Swivo pedal through FOUR different endorsements:RogersTrixon/VoxFibesSlingerlandTommyp
I recently purchased one, and I've noticed this on several others in the past....they are usually stamped "Swiv-O-Matic" on the base of the pedal on the left side of the footboard stay rod mount bracket. Under that is a stamping that reads: "Pat. Pend." or "U.S. Pat. #xxxxx".
Mine must be an early one as it is stamped Pat. Pend. under the swivomatic stamping.
I've been a speed king guy for years, but recently purchased a swivomatic pedal for use with a Slingerland 18" bass drum. These are great pedals for that application because you can adjust the over-all height of the pedal to get the beater to hit near dead-center of the head for a truer tone. No Gibraltar riser required now! :D (Which doesn't work with a speed king pedal btw....)

There is one nice thing about the earlier clamp set-up though. You can leave it attached to the hoop and put the drum in the case with it on. Next time you set up, the pedal goes in exactly the same place on the hoop! :D If you could find a couple of these clamps to keep as extras for other kits (if you use more than one kit) you just leave them on the hoops and attach the pedal. This is probably why I see so many of these pedals come up for sale on Ebay without the hoop clamp...LoLoLoLo
LD!...
That is correct... some of them DO have that on the bottom of the base, but not all, and I'm not exactly sure when Rogers did that. Because the Swivo-Matic has been the pedal of choice for me for the past few decades!, I have many in my arsenal/collection, and covering a lot of different years. ( if I get a chance I'll turn some of them over and see if I can pinpoint WHEN Rogers added that to the base ) Thing with these is.. ( and maybe the same with Ludwig Speed Kings? ) .. they are not all created equal, and by that I mean some of them are just FABULOUS with regard to feel/action... and some are not. That said... I've been actively playing/gigging with ONE Swivo for years and years as it is THE ONE. Soooo... I do indeed have multiple hoop clamps installed on my gigging sets which allows me to play this particular pedal without having to carry a hoop clamp/piece. One must be careful though as all the hoop clamps DO NOT fit ALL Swivo-Matics. They LOOK like they do, but there were subtle changes here and there. Look carefully and match it to YOUR clamp before you buy!

I see quite a few people selling those pedals too without the clamp, without ever mentioning that the pedal is useless without it!Hmmmm
