This finish over time turns from green to creme color and eventually the green disappears. Mind Blowi This is a normal progression when the drum has been exposed to sunlight, especilally direct sunlight. I keep all of mine in black cases to block out the sun, kind of like a vampire crypt.Storm Trooper Usually the most exagerrated one will be the bass drum. Look at the bottom to see more green then flip it and invariably it will be more faded. Sometimes it looks like red, white & blue. If you find some tubs that are truly pristine the green will be quite vivid and virtually no traces of creme/white.

Here's mine, if there's no green, there not pristine.

So, there probably faded (no greens) 20-12-14 with painted black interiors. I wouldn't offer more than $500. Start lower.

I would start are 500.00 and go up on the set.If the set is a 20,12,14 i just passed on a set that had the cover re-moved and the guy would not take less then 500.00...hard size's to come by = bigger money...Mikey

the drums are 20" 12" 14". There is a lot of green on the floor tom and the bass drum. I noticed a flat spot on the floor toms shell. When I get to my computer I will post another pic.

This answer is from a well known snare collector.

The color is called "Patriotic Psych Red"

Consider yourself an honorary member of the Ludwig Floor Tom Flat Spot Club...or something...;)....

The flat spot is very common on 14" floor toms for some reason. I don't see it as much on the 16" floor toms for some reason.

Could be just the photo, but to my eyes it does not look like original psychedelic red wrap. The original has definite streaks of green with no white, where this one looks to have white streaks but no green. Could this be a re-wrap or am I out to lunch?

Yes, this wrap is original and just another variation in the production pattern. Although I much prefer the original Psych Red, this pattern is certainly better than the re-issue!!

Here is a shot I took with 3 distinct generations of Psych red for the sake of comparison. On the top is a recent snare with the latest version featured by Ludwig. Mounted tom 12" is a keystone 678xxx badge

('69) with the earlier (possibly the 1st) version. And the bass drum is the early 2000's version I built as an added kick drum. I also have a set of them from '69 that has an add-on tom B/O badge that is still another version with a much glossier look.electricit Welcome to my world...Lesson here is DO NOT break up an existing set of these. I might soon end up withan orphan from each generation and still no cohesive family. That's downright tragic.
