66 Super Sensitive Shell Material? Last viewed: 56 seconds ago

Ok, ok, I know this is a hot topic that's hard to answer.

I just recently bought a 66 super sensitive, and I'm having the hardest time determining if the shell is ludalloy or COB. Going down the list on the "Is my drum COB" link above, half of the things to check (tone control, badge, etc) point me to thinking its aluminum, but the color of the inside and the weight of the shell especially seems to be pointing me to brass.

Is the only way to know definitively by doing the cutting test described in the "Is my drum COB" link?

I 'll bet big money it's ludalloy, the color inside means nothing, my brass drum aren't brass colored inside at all. does yours have a crimped snare bed? look at the pic see the way it's dented inward that is the crimped bed. if yours doesn't have that then No it's not brass.

Your "crimped bed" theory goes out the window as well I'm afraid, because.......very early "ludalloy" shells (1963ish) also had a crimped snare bed. So they did make aloy shells with crimped beds too. If its a 66 for sure, it is aluminum, or Ludalloy if you like.
