'66 Ludwig Supra?

Loading...

Hello everyone,

First off, I'm new to the vintage snare community. I just picked up a 1966 Ludwig Supraphonic (got that by checking out the serial number on Vintage Drum Guide). The date stamp says JUN 16 1966. What I am trying to find out is whether this drum is all original or if it has been peiced together by someone (you'll see why I ask when you see the pictures).

The shell and serial number seems to match it to a '66 Supra, but the throw off, strainer and bottom hoop look more like what I've seen on older '20s and '30s snares, so I'm wondering what's going on with that.

I also am looking for suggestions on where to find a replacement strainer, as the butt end has started releasing wires and, upon further investigation, it looks like someone has home repaired it.

Here are some photos...

Thanks!

Cool, thanks. Might make it easier to find info about it!

Any ideas where to get the snare unit?

Most drum shops can order new snare strainers for the Super Sensitives from Ludwig. Should cost you about $16.

I've seen the replacment strainers, but can I get the original style adjustable strainer still?

I am looking for the strainer where you adjust each wire individually...
