I have an early 60's 18x14 Rogers bass drum. I bought it new and have had it for about 45 years. It doesn't have a wrap, just the natural wood of the shell. It isn't an all original collectors drum, because I put Ludwig spurs on it and Sonor tom mounts on it when I got it new. It is in excellent shape and solid as a rock, and has always turned heads and been admired. I am wondering if anyone would be interested in such a drum, and how much it might be worth. If no one is interested, I may just use it as part of a junior set of drums for my grandson. I know that 18" vintage drums are quite rare, and thought it might spark some interest for someone. I'd appreciate any comments, both pro and con.

The pro's,yes very rare size..This could be a pro or con when it comes to the Ludwig legs and Sonor mounts a few question's did the drum have Roger's mount's on it and you change them out? Then i would say if you change out the mounts that's a con but if the drum came with-out the Roger's mount's and you added the mount's {Ludwig/Sonor} that would be a pro..Sometime's guy's would order the Roger's bass drums with-out Roger's mount's and added the one's they liked..Question on the finish are you saying that the drum never had a covering and it's a stain finish? Again this come be a pro or con,if finish was a covering and you re-moved it that's a con but if the finish was a stain finish that would be a pro....Mikey
Thanks, Mikey,
As always your comments are much appreciated. As to the 18" Rogers bass, it has a mixed history. I bought it without mounts and spurs and installed the Ludwig and Sonor accessories myself. I removed the original wrap very carefully so that the shell remained in perfect shape because I wanted the un-damped sound of the plain wood shell. The shells have not been finished or lacquered and have remained that way for over 40 years of playing on and off. Like I said, I don't expect a connoisseur collector to be interested, but I am curious as to the value for a musician who wants the sound and quality of a vintage 18" Rogers bass drum. So, that being said, does anyone have an idea of the value of such a drum for a player not a collector?

Wait...you took off the wrap because you wanted the un-dampened sound of the shell, but you put a tom mount on it? DOH
18" bass drums are hot right now, for whatever reason. As a player's drum, I'd expect you could get a couple hundred for it...no collector is going to pay top dollar for a drum with so many modifications.

I would say with the mod's made by you that not a real big thing to me i have a set of Roger's with 2 26" bass drums and the guy who had them ordered them with-out the Roger's mounts and put Ludwig mounts on them-[tom and bass legs] he did not like the Roger's S-O-M mounts..I paid a fiar price for the set 1,500.00-{2-26".14",15", mounted toms floors 18",20"...}Now to your bass even with the finish re-moved and if the edge's have not been re-cut i would say a fair price for your bass drum is 350.00-450.00....I would buy it if i did not have one with a set....Mikey
Too bad about the mods. If it was in original unaltered condition, probably worth $800-1000, if mint possibly even more. With the mods, probably subtract 75%.
Worth more then that.........
I flipped a BDP 18,12,14 for $3,500 around 10 years ago!
That was about the time I first got online.I found someone who had it,and wanted to trade me for a 22" BDP Luddy BD I had.............of course I said yes!
I already had the 12 and 14 BDP Rogers here............
I told the guy in Seattle who bought it,it was pieced together.......he still paid that for it!
Disagree, values were up until a couple years ago. Market is down now. Here is an example:
I know prices are down, but my drums were flat grey Clevelands, those are speckled Dayton.......if that has any bearing on it.
That WMP kit sure is pretty though.......wow!
