Hi - in my search for a front hoop for my 24" Slingerland B/D I came across a shop today who had silver/metal hoops that he thought came off a Slingerland. Does anyone know if this is accurate? My one hoop is wood and that's all I've run across so far. thanks for the info.
Metal Slingerland BD rims? Last viewed: 17 hours ago

Don't get the metal one, they are on cheap Import and low line drums not on high end drums. and wood sounds better on a bass drum
thanks -that's my feeling, too - it's just that the price was right, they were in my hand & I want to proceed with the project to get the front skin back on my BD. A fellow has the wood ones in Tx - but in addition to the hoops there's the $40 shipping that really pushes the price up there - so - these in my hand made some "sense." Then, I got thinking I could polish them up nice to match my silver Rogers snare - but man, just thinking about what that looks like & I need sunglasses to cut the glare. Don't really want that, I think.
So, I'll wait.
thanks
There are at least a few sources for reasonably priced hoops, especially if you're not looking for authentic vintage. If you are looking for authentic vintage, availability's probably a bigger challenge than price. Try posting in our "Wanted" forum to see if one of the guys around here has something that might help you out.
But as for new hoops... I bought my unfinished hoops from Drum Foundry. Unfinished 24" hoops start around $35 each depending on options you select (inlay, etc.) plus something like $12 for ground shipping. Drummaker.com is another source and their web site lists finished hoops as well as unfinished ones. Interstate Music's web site lists a few options, including these Cannon hoops made from 12-ply Keller maple for $36.48 each.
thanks for the links & info - helps me in my shopping. I'd like to keep the drum authentic, but finding is hard to do, so may end up with one of these deals. Is the "roundover cut" a good thing?

You say you're looking for a "front hoop". If you already have one hoop, why don't you use it on the front? Might need a little sanding/filling and a shot of black lacquer to clean up pedal rash and battle scars. Then use a plain black one on the batter (pedal) side where it won't be as easily seen.
And yes, a roundover cut is important. If you've got an old Slingerland drum, its original claws were designed for a hoop with a rounded edge. If you use hoops with squared edges, these claws aren't going to sit right and could damage/dent your hoops.
Tell that to my Slingerland Jet bass drum.......:D
BBK, yeah ,I know there are other examples were my statement sucks air, Such as gretsch etc, but his kit came equipped with wood rims, so I was vaguely answering the question. Now go play that kit.

Just razzin' ya VM2K. I did play that kit and now she's put away, so I can clean out the garage, sell more overstock, etc.

Brother I knew that, but nothing wrong with setting the record right!
