A few weeks ago, I was looking for a new cowbell mount. I have a standard floor tom leg bracket on the top of my bass drum, and was simply using an L-rod in that to mount my cowbell. The problem with it was that the L-rod in question wasn't knurled properly, so it slipped...

No problem, I just went to the local music store to procure a new one. Well, as it turns out, they didn't have one in stock. They did, however, have a DW hoop-mounted cowbell system, with said L-rod included. It was more than I wanted to spend, but whatever. I needed it.

As it turns out the L-rod was a tad too small and didn't work. So, out of boredom, I decided to try this contraption out.

This is by FAR the best hoop-mounted cowbell/accessory mount I've ever seen. I despise the old-school style mount, which easily loosens up. I'm a heavy hitter in a loud rock band, and my mount actually has to bear the weight of two bells--a small LP Black Beauty, and a large LP Ridge Rider Rock cowbell.

This mount does NOT loosen up, and stays put very well. The secret is that it actually clamps onto the back of the hoop of the head, then to to edge of the wooden hoops--using an actual bass drum claw.

The old thumbscrew is gone, and replaced with a drumkey screw. Nice touch.

So, that's great and all, but then it occurred to me that this device had other uses as well. I'm planning to get a couple more of these and mount them to the front hoop of my 32" concert drum. This should make a modern, yet very functional (and more importantly, stable) version of the old hoop-mounted bass drum spurs. I'll just mount the spurs to this DW clamp rather than the older thumbscrew-style clips.
