Need help with this strange Supra 400! Last viewed: 8 seconds ago

Hey Guys,

I'm fairly new to the vintage drum market. Having acquired an old RB Gretsch, which I'm restoring, I was looking out for a Supra to go with it.

Here in SA a mint keystone retails for around $500USD, I've been offered the one attached for half that, there is quite a lot of pitting, but generally it seems if fair nick. Think the pricing is fair based on it's state?

The shell is dated as 1967 inside and the serials in the 500,000's.

The weirdest part though is the throw off, I've not seen this kind/type before, it actually looks to be part of the bottom hoop, anyone seen this before?

Any help would be much appreciated Bowing

Cheers

It's a ludwig supersensitive, same as a supra but with the supersensitive strainer system!

Thanks so much! Found it now, not seen one before. Do you think it is worth the asking price? Is the supersensitive throw off something to be concerned about mechanically, it looks scary with all the exposed parts!

Cheers

Matt. It would only sell for about $50.00 less here in the states, so that's the going rate your paying, also puresound makes very good quality snare wire replacements if the set on this snare drum are toast, and they are easy to tune and setup they just look complicated! here's a link to puresound. http://store.daddario.com/category/144374/Super_Sensitive_Snare_%281920-1968%29

Sadly not, the guy selling it is an out of towner and arriving in town with it tomorrow evening while vacationing here for a week, he is also selling an old blue oyster shell pack, but I'm neck deep in my RB restore, but the snare is looking attractive, just not sure on the price.

Thanks for the heads up on both the pricing and replacement snares. The shell I assume is the same as the supraphonic, just the snare bed and throw off are different? Tonally I assume they sound similar, but you have more tweakabilty with the super?

I can't see the butt side, but I think I should be able to see some of it.... even at the angle pictured.

The butt assembly should extend just as the strainer side does.

Is that the case and I just can't see it?

Thanks

You are right! I can't seem to see it either, I will look for it in person, but my gut is telling me maybe I should just wait for a supra to pop up sometime...

Thanks for all the help guys!
