+1 with Glenn. With a few exceptions Radio King toms can be identified by wide (2-1/4") maple re-rings and mahogany interiors. No vent holes.

Your problem seems to be following those hoops. Are you sure they are genuine Slingerland hoops and not MIJ clones?
