What you have there looks fine. Nobody will know the difference if you don't mention it. I wouldn't mess around with it. The drums are beautiful.

I agree that it is a marching snare or tenor drum that was made into a floor tom. Guys do it all the time. I have a couple myself.

+1 on the duct tape. A drummer's best friend. You can make all kinds of fast temporary repairs to keep the show going. Carried it for years.
