I don't know what it is but it looks like a cool old set and certainly worth polishing up and playing out with it.

I would make the repairs and play it as original. There's just something about an old, good sounding, battle scarred drum that's all polished up.

My perception is that they are good quality mid range drums. I've played a couple of gigs with someone else's kit and they worked well and sounded ok.
