Currently cleaning/"restoring" a late 40s/early 50s RK setup that will become my (first vintage) and main gigging kit. I haven't been more excited about a bunch of drums since I was 16 years old! Come join me in the insanity!

I love the 60s Ludwigs I have...but like an earlier post, I can't seem to give up the Yammie MCAs! I may just have to use both!

Hey Atlanta, You just need time. Giving up a security blanket isnt easy. Just kidding! I'm a 3rd generation drummer and like many people on here i have been playing vintage drums since before they were vintage. I have learned that the older kits tend to be more versatile than the newer ones do. To me, newer gear seems to be more focused to one style or another. Personally, I like older drums and newer cymbals and hardware. My Grampa told me "buy quality, buy once". Included is a pic of his first snare drum. I have nothing against Yamaha drums, but the vintage stuff will always be first choice for me. Sorry if I rambled!

Good points! It may just happen! And I like Ludwig snares more than any others...whether new or old. Combination of sound plus mojo.

My point exactly. Enjoy whatever you play, just play them.

Sounds like the tide is changing in Atlanta! *wink-nudge*.
I agree with Legacy drummer: vintage drums + new hw & cymbals. Reliable and replaceable.

I did the same thing with Yamahas I had for a while. I miss them but truly dig my pre-serial Ludwigs -- warm 'n special like my old K's.

I'm 26 and ditched my last "modern" kit in January. No regrets at all man, go for it!

I just picked up a 9 piece 3 ply Ludwig to replace my Tama StarClassic Performers. Still waiting on new heads but just seeing those cool vintage shells is priceless. No regrets at all.......
