once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Default 1951 Slingerland Radio King restoration HELP!!!

I am in the process of restoring a 1951 Slingerland Radio King. I need a three point snare strainer and a couple of the beaver tail lugs (I have all 16 lugs but two of them are very corroded to the point that you can see through certain parts of one of the lugs). I have tried everywhere I can think of to locate parts. I'm trying to get a hold of a guy in Italy from AK-Drum that makes repro parts but thus far have not been able to raise communication on any level.

E-bay has been a bust. I have searched on all kinds of vintage drum sites, but most don't sell parts because they either don't have them or they use them for their own restorations.

So I now admit defeat and turn to my fellow brothers and sister in the drumming community. Can someone PLEASE take pity on a guy and help a brother drummer out? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want the stuff for free, I'll happily pay for it if someone can give me a little assistance and throw me a bone here.

Thanks,
Ross Orange California

I too am more of a collector than seller, however I do sell pieces from time to time. I deal mainly in Ludwigs, but own others.

I try to accept only Paypal unless I know the person. I generally ship the next day.

My ebay user name is johne7043, and I have a feedback of 100%

1. What you generally have for sale.

Being a former store owner and a vintage magazine owner I had to modify my drum jones. I don't really "collect" vintage drums anymore. I have had dozens of sets and snare drums on shelves in the past but my collection is pretty small now. I'm more interested in documenting the drums that come through here, refurbing them, and selling them to keep them in circulation. This has increased the number of vintage and rare drums I buy and sell. I will usually put them up on the classifieds at NotSoModernDrummer.com when I get them, announce the drum for sale in the magazine articles about them, then put them up on Ebay as a last resort.
*I buy all sorts of rare snare drums and rare drum sets to review for Not So Modern Drummer magazine then usually sell them three or four months later for a little profit to finance the magazine.
* I collect Japanese and other cheap used drums to give to poor kids through my charity PaRumPaPumPum. Please donate. This is not a registered charity, just a personal mission. I sell these occasionally to buy new beginner kits for the kids.
* I have started a non profit Vintage Drum Museum and have had several collections donated to it. This IS a registered charity. All donations are tax deductible. We have had several collections and individual pieces donated. We are looking for a building in Nashville to house the museum.Parts of these collections will be sold per each individual contract with the donors.
* For my own use I buy Gretsch Drums, sixties through nineties, any model with a Jasper shell in good condition. I own Radio Kings, Black Beauties, Noble and Cooleys, and different old chrome over brass snares. I "collect" and play for SOUND quality, not condition, because the artists, recording engineers and producers I work with only listen to them, not look at them. Most (90%) of the rare drums I buy without playing beforehand do not pass the sound test and I sell them. My best sounding Radio King is the worst as far as collectability! A real redheaded stepchild! :-)
* I also sell new generic parts, vintage parts, new and vintage drums and cymbals left over from my George's Drum Shop. I put these on Ebay a few at a time as time allows.
*I sell back issues of Not So Modern Drummer Magazine
* Joe Partridge and I build Famous brand snare drums and kits and sell them.
* I own the rights to the NSMD engraved black beauty and the NSMD engraving pattern. These are made to order. If you want to order one, the waiting time is dependent on when John Aldridge can do the engraving; no guaranteed delivery time.

2. How fast you ship.

I usually ship the vintage drums within the week . It depends on whether or not I'm out of town on a gig. I am more concerned with getting them packed safely than with expediency. I usually do not deal with people who are in a hurry or who want things overnighted. That, in my long sales experience, is a big red flag with unknown buyers.

3. The types of payment you take.
Everything; paypal, checks, all credit cards, trades sometimes.

4. Your eBay user ID (If Available) so we can check your feedback record.

All good info and yes it should be standard for all sales.
I also use my ebay name just to show I'm on the level and to make stronger connections.
