Argent Drums?

Loading...

Picked up a set of Argent drums yesterday at a pawn shop for $80. I never heard of them before. Deep toms, crummy faded and yellowed wrap but the shell construction seems decent. Some kind of hardwood I think. The BD sounds good, toms may need some work though. The bearing edges are cut with a single 45 which I believe is a fairly modern contrivance, although the drums look pretty old. I'm guessing around 1990. I'll try to get some pics up.

Meantime, anybody know anything about Argent drums? Their history, what they were made with, and where. I've heard they were based in Utah and were using mahogany but this wood doesn't look at all like any mahogany I've ever seen.

I think they were based in Salt Lake City, Utah. And I'm 99% sure they are no longer in business.

I'd heard of them, but have no experience with them at all.

My Wife's cousin had purchased a Argent set for her Grandaughter at a garage sell. She sold it last week for $75. I had cleaned and set them up for her. They seemed decent. Actually sounded pretty good. They had Ambassador heads on them. I didn't realize they were American made.

I bought a used set in 99 or 2000. they were u.s. made. they sounded good but looked like any other modern stencil set to me. had I bought the black wrap kit, I would have probably kept them. but of course I bought the all common wine colored. gave them to my son for his first kit however and he loved them.

I remember seeing Argent drums on eBay some years ago. What I remember about them was that the shells used re-rings. That seemed pretty cool for a fairly inexpensive kit. I also seem to recall that they were offered in both a wrapped finish and a bit more expensive lacquered finish, too. My mind's a bit fuzzy on that, so I could be mistaken!

While I don't know much about them, I did end up with five 22" black front bass drum heads with a white Argent logo. Need em?

I also have two 11x13 bare Argent shells
