He's delusional.
Where do people come up with these prices?
Certainly it's not the market, not in THIS ecconomy.
I know somewhere there will be one fool who will pay that much for it.
Well, it is a Gretsch, and one sold for that a couple days ago...so, he may get close.

I love that line of reasoning...."well it is a Gretsch"........
There is no reason Grestch should be more valuable than any other american made drum from the 60's....they all sound good and they all have poorly made hardware....and they all are getting a bit rare these days....

You are absolutely right. I don't condone it, but the fact is, people will pay more....a LOT more for Gretsch than any others, on average. There are certain kits from all the companies that bring more, but those are just the more desirable stuff, like in any other type of collecting.
Now, you wanna know what is even more dumbfounding? It is even happening in the MIJ market. Please, I know there is no comparison in quality, or value to most people, so let's not go there. This is just a diatribe about the same type of thing happening, rather comically, to the MIJ market. There are some that sell for far more than others, and I am not talking just Yamaha, which is an actual reasonable expectation because their gear is better quality, more professional grade right off the bat, regardless of anyones feelings about the marketing and strategy, they are better than the rest of the Japanese builders, period.
