Since John is knowledgeable in these matters I'll accept the value as being 35 dollars. However the sellers description of the condition being "good-some scratches" would be a lot more accurate as "poor- damaged during removal".At best it looks like he used a flat shovel to remove it. At worst, a jackhammer!
Mick - she ain't pretty, that's for sure! But his description is still accurate. 'Poor condition' would be; bent, cut, or mis-shaped, company logo damaged or partial, no city of origin visible, or the serial number is illegible, damaged, or worn away.
The silk-screened Ludwig logo on that badge is all there and completely legible. It is not bent, the keystone shape is all there with no nicks taken out of it, and it does have some funky surface scratches. (From a flat-head screw-driver judging from the shape of the scratches.)
To a guy who has been looking for that specific badge... it is a 'good one.' The scarcity of the badge is what justifies the asking price. Watch ebay and see how long it takes before another one comes up for sale. You'll be waiting awhile...
Honest description, fair market price for what it is. If the badge was clean/pristine, he could ask $50 for it and still be 'fair' in price. Rare badge.
