Hey gang. Putting together a nice little kit for a customer, and do to some prior swapping around, I'm left with one wood hoop, and one metal for the kick drum. This is a little 20/12/14/14 3 ply MIJ kit, with re-rings and single row lugs. Would like to get the best from them, and was hoping for an opinion whether I should put the wood hoop on the batter side, or the reso side? Thanks.

I'd put it on the reso side - looks better. Meanwhile the metal hoop can take all the kick pedal abuse...

+1 Pedals do a number on wood hoops.

I'd put the metal on the reso..
However my consideration is because the metal hoops are harder to tune. ( adjust one tensioner and the adjacent two will loosen off ).. Also most metal hoops have a metallic resonance that I just do not like.

Thanks guys. I'm not as concerned about cosmetics, the metal hoop is painted black, and I usually put something to protect the hoop from the pedal. It was more about the best tone. Think I'll try wood on the reso side. Cheers.
