A moment of silence...

"On this Easter, I am writing to inform you of the passing of our dear friend, Bill Ludwig II. Bill was 91 years old and has been in declining health for the past 4 years. Details will follow, but the Ludwig family has indicated a special Memorial service will be held on or around April 3rd in Chicago." Planning is in the early stages.

We all owe so much to this man. A powerhouse of business, but a true drummer and percussionist. As Bill Ludwig III stated today, "The Lord's orchestra needed a timpanist." Bill won the part."

I was at his 90th birthday party at Maxwell's and it was a very nice party... Up until then I had only seen him at the drum shows...

BIII on the other hand is a friend and I see him a few times a week. I help him with NSMD magazine.

So I have a more personal connection with him and I see how he is as a son. He really loved his dad and did what he could to keep him comfortable. There have been many trips to the hospital over the past few months and it has been very stressful for him and the family.

He has been waiting for this moment because of his dads condition, but when it happens it is still a shock and a change of life.

I will have the most up to date information and plans for the services and will post them on the NSMD forum. The only reason I did not post it here was because I had to create the page for the NSMD web site and home page and posted it there..

So, keep checking in and thanks Roscoe I should have done it days ago...

I just got back from the memorial service for BII.. The day started with the services at the Church, which were nicely arranged. There was a small chamber group with a timpani player playing all of the music...

It ended with 7 or 8 drummers including BIII, Bun E, Dick Schory and other notables playing "Three Camps" and marching down the center of the church... Then a very nice taps of trumpet and flute...

After that off to the party, which was very nice and had lots of food and drink... Plenty of pictures..

Rob Cook had three screens running photos and video at the after event and also did the video at the church memorial...

So it was me, BIII, Rob Cook, Harry Cangany and other vintage guys talking drums over a very nice selection of food.

A day to remember for sure..
