I ask this, as I am buying a Slingerland Chicago kick and snare set. I want to buy repro lugs for making a set of toms for this set. I plan on aging whatever wrap I get on the new drums to match what is on the kick and snare presently. It's a skyblue marine pearl. I have access to many methods of aging, including knowing a very, very sought-after guy who builds aged guitars.
I plan on gigging this kit and jettisoning the OCDP Venice kit I currently gig with, so this is why it's okay for me to have "fakes" as my toms. But if I can capture the spirit of the older Slingerlands, that's what I would prefer to do.
I know whatever I buy will need re-rings.
No pics yet, as this kit is still in lay away. I may be overpaying; but then again, I would rather buy stuff that I can see when it comes to stuff that is 50 years old, you know?
So- who makes new shells the most like old shells?
