I don't know that anyone makes 3-ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany shells anymore. The closest substitute I'm aware of are Keller's 6-ply vintage mahogany shells. But buying a set of those, plus hardware, plus edges, plus finish would cost you a lot more than real used Slingerland drums, which often sell pretty cheap.

Yeah- I just don't want to mix eras and such. I want a 20" floor tom (like they used to offer), and I know those don't come up too often.

Theres a company down the street from where I live called Vaughancraft Percussion.Have you tried them yet.Per thier website they make just about every kind of drumshell you can think of.

I was going to go for cosmetic aging, as in yellowed clear nitrocellulouse lacquer and tanning beds. But if those methods don't work, then I do that cutom wrap.

Vintage Slingerland hardware is the bargain stuff indeed. Even on eBay you can get great deals on lugs and rims.

I think I would go as suggested earlier though. An entire kit, even on eBay, would be less expensive than piecing one together with old and new.

Hence (there it is!) the suggestion.
