White Vistalite - cleaning off some black marks Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Loading...

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice as to cleaning a white vistalite bass drum, that appears to have had something black rub against it at sometime and has left some marks.

These are not score marks (i.e not a scratch) but just like a crayon has marked them, but it won't just wipe off (tried a damp rag).

These being my first and only Vistalites, I am not keen to just try anything.

Cleaning with a damp rag made the Vistalites white shine really bright (seam is yellow though, but as it is from the 70's I expected that).

Thanks for all you help.

Try a little "Kitten Auto polish" on a damp cloth (not the paste) the one in the green bottle. I use it on whitegoods.

Cheers

Any one of those will work but esp oil based will break down any crayon type residue.

I would think WD-40 would be safe.

Goo gone not so much. IMHO. It could melt the finish and make it dull.

Goo Gone and Goof Off are paint removers mainly for use with latex paint removal. They can burn into clear finishes.

I like WD for so many cleaning situations that would normally require paint or laquer thinner.

WD-40 is a fish oil based cleaner.

Good luck.

In the fiberglass boat and hot tub world, the thing to get black streaks off plastic is Marykate Spray Away.

You can get it various places, I think I picked up my bottle at West Marine.

I used it to clean my Phonics and it took each and every mark off the wrap and hid the scratches surprisingly well.

Just don`t get it on the wood. Spray it on the rag, not the drum wrap.
