I second the Luxor snare.

Is this the style of kit you have (sizes/lugs/mounts)?

If so, it came with a Luxor snare. In my opinion, there is nothing "beginner" about these kits. Same hardware configuration as the the Clubdate by Ludwig.

Now trying to find gold sparkle might be a challange, but a Luxor re-wrap might be an option. Luxor's in good to excellent condition have been going for $180 to $220.

You can't beat a Powertone wood shell for a players kit. Just a wonderful snare. But I would own ten Dynas if I could because they are just so beautiful.

My Rogers kit is a Delta Tower kit...thanks for the catalog pic Thornbeck. I bought the kit in the early 70's with no snare drum. In those days, it was considered a starter kit because of the single lug configuration, the 6 lugger snare drum, the price tag, and the fact that the majors had not yet started to put their badges on cheap imports. Imagine!! Inexpensive American "student" drums made with the same quality materials and craftsmanship as the "pro" kits.

I wouldn't mind getting the matching Luxor snare as Leedybdp and Thornbeck suggested even though I'm not a big fan of 6 luggers. Ok..now I have to recalculate my search priorities.
