Which one should I get? Last viewed: 12 hours ago

I knew someone would say get both! I'm going to have a hard enough time explaining one. I value my marriage, so one it is. So far it looks like avocado is the winner by a landslide. I am meeting this person tomorrow, so I'll see how it goes.

Thanks! They did clean up well... be sure to put a coat of floor wax on them after you've cleaned 'em. That really makes that wrap pop.

Avocado is a kind of strange color for drums, but back then it was hugely popular... appliances, carpet (hi low shag of course). My first house (with my first wife) had avocado carpets and kitchen... I just don't think drummers really liked it, since you'll see ten nice Ruby Strata or Solid color 'Mists' for every Avocado kit. Lemon Strata is even worse. Yeah, I'm that old! :)

Thanks!

I picked up a nice Ruby Strata kit a couple months ago... I've always been fond of 'Standards' due to the wraps.

Someday, I'm going to have to get pix of those new Ruby's...

That is a great lookin kit, fish. Are those Ruby's in the same condition as the Olive strata's? It looks like the wrap on the Olive Strata's has a little brown in it, Is that correct?

I love that olive color it really says 60's, 70's to me. And it is a hard color to find. I've been looking for an olive wrap for my powertone rewrap project.

Morning folks! Up early to play on the radio... yep, the new Ruby's are in the same condition. Very little fade, and it's the jazz sizes, 20, 12, 14 with an add on, same condition 16 ft, the matching correct serial / condition matching wood / Ruby Strata snare and an add on Standard brushed aluminum snare. I really need to get off my rear and get the pictures...

The Avocado does indeed have a brown hue in them, depending on the light. In direct sunlight the brown really comes out, otherwise it hides in the shadows. I took the pictures of that kit at different times to show that - direct sunlight and then shade.

Strata wraps are pretty weird. First, I don't think it's been made since the very early 70's... although Ludwig is putting out an ersatz Ruby wrap now. It's not quite the same, but it's still a looker. I saw one of the new Ludwig kits in that wrap over at Bentley's not long ago. As far as Avocado Strata goes, I wouldn't hold my breath...

The strata wraps are slightly thinner than a regular Ludwig wrap, and susceptible to massive fading if left in much sunlight.

As far as finding an olive colored wrap for your Rogers snare... wow. I don't know where to start looking for that. I remember seeing a camo wrap years ago, but that never really interested me. The Olive / Avocado stuff was indeed a short lived fashion statement. The only reason I bought the Avocado Strata's I have is that I bought them barely used in 1971, and I mean barely used. The original heads were like new at that time. I bought them from some kid who wanted a guitar. The kid lived in a huge house... blah blah. I'm pretty sure his folks got him the kit, he used it for ten minutes and shoved them in the closet. I helped him drag 'em out of the closet when I came by to buy 'em. Fueled by strong coffee, the brain is beginning to kick in... I'm thinking I paid him $200.00 for the kit & hardware.

Okay, enough blather! :)
