Told by who? If the heads are in good condition, why change them?

Did you like the way the Pinstripes sounded? If so, leave them on or just get new Pinstripes.

center dots, or my preference 2 ply oil skins they make up for no resonant head ,they really work well on bottom less heads....

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I have used FG drums for 30 years.

Pinstripes are good for FG.

So are EC2's by Evans.

Also Clear or coated emperors by Remo.

These thicker heads for a thick "70's" rock sound. Fat and wet.

Clear or coated ambassadors on the bottom.

My suggestion is: If the original heads are not dented? Use them.

Tune em up.

Too much ring? Put a "Ritchie ring around the edge.

Cut out of a drum head. Start with a 1" wide ring and cut it down to add ring back. Fold it in half and cut the half circle. Easier.

FG drums are so loud that a "Ritchie ring" won't kill it.

Remember, live onstage with no mikes,........audience will not here that extra resonance.

They will sound good out front.

Good luck.........heads are expensive...pinstripes can last a long time.

Bottom heads are in tact ?.. Then no need for change.. For the tops, i would recommend Remo CS Black Dot heads, and i'll explain why.. Pinstriped resonate less and are thicker ply than ambassadors or emperors.. Fiberglass shells will resonate more and are louder than wood shells, just like a set of acrylic drums.. The black dots will control unwanted overtones while maintaining enough resonance for the drums to "sing".. Pinstripes won't so much..I usually associated Pinstripes with the Power toms of the 80's which worked great for that type of depth..

I think this would be the best choice of heads for fiberglass shells, but then again this is just my opinion.. However, i do have experience as a drum tech in studio and in a live setting, and i have attained this experience in the last 23 years..

On the plus side, aesthetically they'll look cool, and fit the 70's early 80's vibe of your kit.. Hope this helps you out..
