What year Super Ludwig and what should I offer? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

I came across this what seems to be a nickel over brass Super Ludwig the other day, but the owner told me he had it sold to someone. We're not sure on the year of it. I told him if things fell thru to give me a call. Then today I got a call from him and he says that the other deal looks like it is falling thru. He wants me to make him and offer. He knows its got some value, but I'm not even sure he knows exactly what it is worth. It's in great condition with very little rust or corrosion. The pics give a pretty accurate description of it. Still has a good skin on the snare side, the batter is shot. Gut snares still seem to be in pretty good condition. I really want this, but can't break the bank to do it.

So what should I offer him on the snare???

It came out in 1924, and run for a while !! Between 24 and 28, the strainer did not have the protective .."roll cage" like this one. (I don`t know if it was removeable) This one is also missing a knob on the throw !! Does it have engraveings on the shell as well as the hoops ? Before 28 the panels went,..engraved "ludwig" on the shell top, vent hole, strainer and engraved ludwig on the bottom half !!

Just giving your answer a try before Mike replies so I can see if I got something right !!

I want that drum more than you,...One day I`m gonna have that, and a Sonor Extra,...side by side !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Hey Oddball. You got it right with the markings. Nothing on the top rim, then the Ludwig engraving (you can slightly see it in the first photo), the vent hole is on the other side, then nothing, and finally the super Ludwig on the bottom rim.

But now that you mention it, on the third photo of the throw off, right in the middle next to the U shaped bracket there appears to be a threaded bolt. Should there be a know or something there?

I think that`s the room needed so when you spin the knob, that bracket slides in and out on the U shaped clamp !!

I know it's 14" and I would guess 5-5 1/2. I didn't measure since at the time it wasn't for sale.

On a side note, never heard of the sonor extra before. Wow that is awesome. Kinda Ludwig-ish lugs, but I love the strainer. You'll have to show that off if you ever get one.
