What year did Pioneer snares start?

Loading...

Hi all

Question: The Ludwig book states that Pioneer snares ran from 1960-1973 & on the VDG I only see the 1960 catalog. I just purchased a 1959 (dated Nov 6 1959) Pioneer WMP 6 lug snare.

Did Ludwig just not catalog the Pioneer until 1960?

anyone else have a drum before the catalogs showed them?

Thanks

the 57 wfl catalog didnt have them listed as pioneers yet. like you mentioned, the 60 did. i think the 60 catalog was when they first started calling them pioneers. ive got at least one transition badge drum with a 1960 date stamp. so, i'd call yours a pioneer. nice drum!

I'm kinda surprised that you have that P83; I guess the older style one, with the slotted hole had just been replaced. I've got a slightly newer Pioneer (KB, not transition) with the P85, large Pioneer strainer, marked Ludwig. For a few years, they must have had a lot of different strainers goin'. Nice snare; mine's wmp, too. (lookin' for a CD kit to go with it)...............marko

Here's one from 1928 that Olympic Drums in Portland has:

Looks like a nice drum, but I don't know about tuning a 6 lug drum. I have a hard enough time with 8 and 10.

Thanks all. I should have mentioned the earlier versions.

There seems to be more Pioneers out there than any other drum I've noticed. I'm very happy with my FIRST Transition Badge snare!Excited

I wonder if they played Pioneer snares while riding in covered wagons...

Okay, too much coffee this morning.
