Substantial?

Is the wrap really red?.. or a shade of purple?

... also, what color is the interior? and are there any badges on the outside?

Yeah, noticed that earlier. Could be anything after it's been around for a bit though. When I was a kid I put a P-83 on a Crown snare just so it would stay in tension.

Hi. Wow lots of replies :D The color of it is red, the interiors like a light browny color >_< The only sign of a badge on the outside is where I think one was taking off, you can see in picture 5. I'll post some pictures of the interior later today :D

Your drum looks to be a english Rogers. Rogers gave the license to a english company back in the 60s and a couple of these pop up in the states. They had a unique plastic Rogers logo that are easy to break off. Also, notice the slotted tension rods and premier/english made muffler. That's absolutely a english finish used heavily in the 60s. The inside should have a natural finish ..very cool drum!

If you check out this site above ..Dave Clark used a English Rogers. Notice the badge your missing, same lugs, rims and muffler, I will be honest i never seen a English Rogers in that color, but I have seen Premiers in that color..so it could/must be original.

Sell me it Cool1

Wow :D Thanks for the replies. Dave clarke was before my time but my dad remembers them! Wow, an english rogers? I thought that they were just an american company :D I havn't decided what I want to do with it yet, I thought that it was a vintage drum kit that I had so I thought about hanging on to it, so I have a peice of music history :D It depends what it might be worth though, I can't really play it in my house because of the noise and I feel bad if it just sits in a corner gathering dust, poor thing :<

Here's some pictures of inside the snare drum :D

The last picture shows where that lug to the left of the lever thing is. I think the original lug was damaged or taken off the some reason and replaced with this other lug which is why there is 3 holes, im guessing? @_@

These lugs usually crack over time..most likely why the one lug was replaced. The inside and muffler look to correct as well. I'll be honest, your chances of finding the correct badge for that drum is slim to none...Regardless, very cool drum!!!

I saw an interesting link on Mike Dolbear on English Rogers, and it said some shells were beech, some birch, your shell looks like beech, and also looks like it has the Tall Hoops,I would assume those were imported from Rogers U.S.A,which were pre 1964 for the most part, and intended for use with calf heads, which stretched more,to make tuning better and to keep from exposing the bearing edge from damage.

That is English Rogers in Red Pearl (well obviously) - it is original.

The two holes you mention in pic. 5 are for the English Rogers logo. They are about 2mm in dia. and 1 and 3/4 inch apart.

Yours would have been the top one. These were cast of aluminium alloy and were very brittle.

The damper appears to be a premier replacement.

This is original.

The shells are birch or beech, yours looks beech (no grey paint or labels) and about half of these drums have a serial number. It is an ink stamp found inside the shell under where the logo would have been (some are very faint). This could be used to date it. Without this we can say 1961-early 1965.

English Rogers had tall hoops from 1961 all the way to the end of production about 1967.

A lot of these drums ended up in the US because English bands would tour over there and the drummer would take a set with him, ditch it and bring home an American set, customs would be non the wiser.
