What Slingerland snare do I have here? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

So my girl surprised me with this vintage snare for my birthday. It's going to be a restore project. It's a 7x14" with the 1948/50 badge. It was labeled on ebay as a solid shell Hollywood ace/Radio king, but this appears to be a 3 ply drum? From what I have researched the 1949/50 Hollywood ace was a solid shell, was the 48 a 3 ply? I'm guessing it's a Maple/Poplar/Maple shell.

Looking under the lugs it appears it was a duco finish originally. Is it a Frankenstein mix & matched drum?

Whatever the case I'm going to restore this as well as I can. I've ordered some new snare wires, minwax 2 part wood filler, wood hardener, glue, clamps, syringes, fine sandpaper, & stain. I'm planning to stain it satin ebony, would that be sacrilege =)?

All in all I'd love to find out what model this guy was originally.

That's a beautiful Radio King with a birdseye maple shell. It looks to be fairly complete. You're a lucky man to have a lady think enough of you to buy you that drum.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
