Just thought i'd post this video for fun.. Here's a cool video of Bun E. Carlos live with Cheap Trick in '88..

The sound of his snare drum is incredible, and no doubt it's from his collection, because it looks like a a 20's or 30's brass snare drum..

I can't really tell what is, and was wondering if anyone else can ? You can see a decent shot of the snare at 1:35..

Mr. BEC , are you there ?? ;)

Looks like a Ludwig 20-30's 2 piece brass...maybe a 6 lugger?

There was an article in an issue of NSMD where Bun mentioned he used a vintage 4x14 Ludwig around that time. This might be it although there's a pretty good chance he has/had more than one of these type of snares.

I still have the drum. It's a replated (in brass) 8 lug, 5x14, 1923ish Ludwig snare drum. I refer to it as a "Standard", but I've been told that name wasn't in use for a few years after this drum was made.

Earlier in the 80's I did use a 4x14 black beauty with extra holes and a screwed up finish.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
