What Era would you choose? Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

If you could have, play, or collect drums from only one era, which would you choose? Just curious to see what you think? For those who gig with an inexpensive newer kit don't count that one.

1980 or newer

1970 - 1979

1960-1969

1946-1959

before 1946

1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit

1960-1969

I played from 67-69

1967 WMP four piece Slingy

1966 Red sparkle four piece Ludwig.

Combined both to make a double bass set.

The era's seem to be broken down in a way that makes it difficult to vote, IMO. The 58-62, 64-68, 68-73, and 75-79 would all be individual era's for me. They represent specific builds within. That makes it tough for me to vote here.

I tossed around a lot of different ideas about era's and ended up with more or less decades.

So what era of your more specific era's above would you choose, mcjnic?

What about pre '58? No interest?

the drums from the 30's and 40's are amazing the wood that was used for them you can no longer get, and the glues also! the metal that was used also, they are far better than anything you can buy today!!! Cool1

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

100% agreed. I chose the 60's era, though, because there was something just "groovy" about that time that even trumps the higher quality materials....in my opinion. Bias? yes!

I chose the 60s because I like the sound of the BD and toms from that era. However, I play mostly snares from the 20s and 30s.

I picked the 70's. I played then, but like anything else, I wish I knew then what I know now. This is a great post and has an even deeper meaning as far as what we, or, just speaking for myself, may have prepared for.

I chose the 60's...

I think drummers like Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, Charlie Watts, John Bonham, Ringo Starr etc. changed the way drummers played. As with most of their musician peers, they helped change music. the way it was listened to, danced to, and followed.

They may have started off on kits from the 40s and 50s, but, after all the endorsements came, and drum manufacturers started listening to these "kids", they certainly changed what was available from retailers etc.
