I have no regret's to selling a vintage drums.I do have some regret's on deal's that i missed.....Mikey
What did you regret selling?
The Aug. 31, 1960 4x14 Ludwig Downbeat in Blue Sparkle. The Ayotte DrumSmith 5x14 in Cranberry. The partial sheet of the only Rogers Big R Silver Metallic Pearl wrap in existence.
A sad story.Back in the 80's when Roger's closed down they called the owner of West Coast Drums in santa ana,ca they were about 20 miles apart. They made an offer to Bob to sell him all the N.O.S. shells they had ..They did a deal for the shells 5 ply maple with rings and 8 ply without rings.Shells were un-drilled,un-finish, ete.A few days later bob had two 18 wheelers load up on the shells...I went along to help anyway i walked over to these big trash can's they were full of sheet's of wrap.catalogs.badge's ete,ete...The worker's would not let me grab anything it all went to the dump.....Mikey
I recently sold my cherished '66 Leedy red ripple to another person on this site. I regret this even more since my wife has spent the money and all I got was...well, I didn't get anything; I lost my drums!
Even if drum/cymbal sold with regret - it remains. Other drummer enjoys the beauty.
I would never own 67' Ludwig

I miss these guys. Bought for 85.00 last summer, sold for 325. Money is gone and so are the drums. I think for a while I am going to keep everything I buy. Then sell some of the stuff in about 15 years and go on a trip. The value of the drums should go up somewhat ( I hope) making it a tiny bit of an investment. So far I have gotten back everything I have put into buying drums, have not lost money. I call drum restoring my free hobbie. But have found that selling on c/l and ebay is a royal pain in the rear. But then I have had my ss# stolen and will not ever trust the internet with my money again, there is no security. One thing for sure, I will have fun looking for, purchasing, restoring and playing all of these drums. I am lucky to have climate controlled space to keep them in.
Thanks to all of you who answer my questions and have educated me to this point.

Thank you!

Regrets? Not really, 'cause this part-time hobby/business actually goes a long ways in keeping food on the table!!
However, IF circumstances were different, I'd keep EVERYTHING I work on!
The closest thing to a "regret" is something I just sold (to another member on here)... the Ludwig Jazzfest reproduction in champagne sparkle. So, that just means I need to build another one!

my 1965 Rogers Tophat set in Blue Glass Glitter along with the companion swingtime set also in blue glass glitter I have to claim insanity as i have always regretted letting them go..
Pink oyster 14x18 Slingy kick drum. Would have been a huge headache trying to find the matching toms, but man that was one sweet bass drum, wish I still had it! Also a set of Cuban made cedar conga drums, incredible sounding congas, and I put in many hours of restoration on them...
a complete set of K cymbals with a few Sabians thrown in. They were at a pawn shop where a buddy works. My guitar player found them first and wanted me to "check them out" In all honesty ,I knew he would not enjoy them as they were for his tiny studio set of drums. I got them for 176 dollars and gave them to Bob. Damn if his realative told him he could make money selling the cymbals so they were gone in a heartbeat. He gave me his old Zildjians in exchange for the K's so I wasnt out any money ,but you dont come across deals like that to often.AND my buddy at the pawn shop doesnt work there so I will never get a deal like that again.V
