I just bought this snare on an eBay auction primarily because the BDP wrap matches my club date kit. I don't know much about this snare and would appreciate any help with what I bought. Thx jim

being a wfl, i'd say its probably a ray mckinley super classic 6.5x14. looks to be nickel finish and black diamond pearl. beautiful drum! those are also commonly called symphonic snare drums since thats what ludwig called them in the 60's.

I have a '40s Ray Mckinley Super Classic (also in BDP), and yours looks identical.

Very nice drum.

i take it yours are stretched too loose? it took me over a year to find an original set for my super classic. even then, i didnt find the ones with the amber resin tips like yours. i ended up getting a metal end ludwig script logo version. puresound was making some at one time. in fact, there was a forum member that pm'd me that had a set. i think i recall who it was. maybe he will see this..are yours 15" total length?

My snare wires are 16 inches from end to end. I picked the drum up tonight. It is very nice. The nickel will clean up well. Hoops are NOB. Every drum I buy seems to have a story. Here's this one... Seller was roomates with a drummer in college. When the drummer moved out, he didn't have enough cash to pay his share of the last month's rent and left the drum behind as collateral- 25 years ago. The drum has been tucked away in a closet ever since. There is zero fade. The ebay listing included a picture of splitting wood on the interior, but you can barely see it in person. I started cleaning it up tonight and will post pictures soon. Thanks. Jim

Lucky day, there was a set of discontinued Puresound wires on ebay. These appear to be the correct wires, since I have the extended butt plate. Puresound PL311416.
