what date is this Lud dampener?

Loading...

I got a couple of these Ludwig dampeners today and one was still in the package. Looks like it may have been restapled honestly. The screw is on the top which doesn't fit any of the early blue olive badge stuff I have. Anyone have any info to help me?

These have been the same since 1968 without changes. They should fit your b/o badge drums without problems.

When you say the screw doesn't fit, how so? Can you describe what's going on for us here?

No, ec_curtis is correct. I just checked my 1970's stuff and the small screw is on the bottom.

This particular muffler is for a 70's Supra, and not toms. If the screw was on the bottom, it would have been drilled into the belt line of the shell. Just a guess, as I have seen this before....and the only logical explaination???

DING! DING! DING!! You are correct, sir!

I just went back and checked my 79 Supra and sure enough...screw is on the top! It seems they had to do it that way on the Supra in order to make it possible for the large round knob to clear the rim...and they couldn't put the small screw on the bottom because of the center bead.

Mystery solved!
