WFL question

Kind of weird, I have a 13'' Damen era badge WFL ride tom that has

5 lugs instead of 6. Just got a WFL vintage catalog, #51, and it shows

only the normal 6 lug styles. Anyone else ever see or hear about Ludwig

making 5 lug toms after WW2? Wondering if my tom is a fluke or some

sort of cost saving feature WFL was doing. Wish I could also just

look at some earlier catalogs up close like #49 or 50 . . .

Thanks

No, it's a super classic kit with the cheaper nickel plating. Hoops are all

nickel over brass which is cool, but some of the nickel is coming off

on just the ride tom. I posted some pictures last year, but just got

this super cool WFL #51 catalog and was hoping to see a mention

in there about a 'budget' line that had fewer tension lugs, but didn't . . .

Yeah, this was my first super killer craiglist deal from last spring. :)

Only found this and another super killer deal in 18 months, so it's pretty barren really, seems like other dudes are getting way more cool stuff from CL in

other parts of the US...

Not around here...it's a barren landscape, fraught with idiots and flakes. Every SP or GP or whateverP kit that sold in the last 5 years gets on and stays on for 300-400 when they aren't even worth 100. So, they sit and get re-listed week after week for 2-3 months and finally the seller gives up and they go away for a couple of weeks then they are back again...POS and no one wants them. As for real vintage anything, we get maybe one or two a month and the prices are stupid because the seller first consults Horn Trader in OKC and he fills their heads with huge dollar signs. Imagine a mismatched 70s Ludwig for 2000, or another for 1200, both in no better than average condition, neither of which I would give more than 800.

I think that is a late 40's drum. I think that wmp pattern probobly appeared around 1949 but the small lugs would seem to indicate something WFL did on the very early classic lug drums. Also zephyr lug drums had five lugs sometimes so this is kind of strange. I am wondering if WFL had some five hole hoops left lying around and they did this just to get rid of them! They never wasted anything so you never know! Nice set!
