WFL Floor Tom Legs Too Short

Loading...

So I picked up this WFL orphan kit and totally love it. Consists of keystone w/serial, keystone no serial, and transition badge. The floor tom is 15x12. Problem is, the legs are too short. As you can see in the pic, I put the drum on some bed risers, but that looks goofy & I wouldn't play it live like that. Fully extended, the drum is a playable height, but I just need another 4 inches (that's what she said Laughing H).

Question: are these kind of legs from the early 60's era all the same length? My first Ludwig experience, so I haven't studied them much.

what do they measure? ive got some 12x15 and 14x14 clubdate toms. I don't recall if there were two different leg lengths or not. I don't recall any. but there could be. there were two different lengths on classic legs. they were like 17 and 22 or something along those lines.

one thing to consider...3/8 round steel stock will work fine for legs. you can buy them and cut them the length that you want. ive got a set of homemade on a 10x14 clubdate marcher than I converted into a floor tom. worked like a charm.

Check the Gibraltar web site, I'm sure they make repro legs that the correct diameter, just a thought Cheers Stevo.

You could also have a metal shop make replacements for you to whatever length you want. Just take in the originals and they should be able to make an exact copy except for the length. Shouldn't cost much unless you have them chromed. Not sure what nickel would cost. But like what Mike said shouldn't be hard to do yourself either.

I make my own like Mike suggested. I gave the tops a nice roundover on the bench grinder and use Gibralter ISO feet on the bottom. Cheap and easy solution. Or as a temp fix until you source some new legs.

Gibraltar 9.5m legs are 20 1/2" long. $14.99 at Musicans Friend.

These fit my 68 Ludwig floor tom.

They only measure 15". I tried putting my Slingerland legs in there, thinking I could just switch them between the two sets since the Slingerland FT is 16x16, but the Slingerlands were slightly too large for the holes. The WFL's fit the Slingerlands. The Slingerlands are from the 50's though with the old style Radio King mounts.
