WFL 1121 Hi-Hat Seat Last viewed: 1 week ago

I work at a school, and like a lot of schools, we've got sort of a graveyard for drums and hardware that have fallen into disuse over the years. Anyway, I started playing around with an old WFL 1121 hi-hat stand and have actually kinda taken a liking to it. The problem is that I can't figure out what's supposed to be on the seat. There has to be some sort of sleeve or something to insulate the bottom cymbal from the shaft, right? Can anyone describe what's supposed to be there?

I did notice that the newer 1123 stands have a nylon sleeve built into the hi-hat seat, but the 1121 just has a brass bushing or grommet holding the seat to the top of the shaft. There doesn't seem to be a way to fasten a similar nylon sleeve.

the only thing it's missing is the felt! that's how it came, but on mine I put a metal hihat washer on mine then the felt!!

Agreed, all that is missing is the felt washer. Most of the manufacturers did this back in the day. It wasn't until later that they came up with the rubber seat and then later the metal seat with nylon sleeve......and then of course the modern plastic seat.....

Thanks, guys!

I actually have the felt, so I guess I've got the whole enchilada. I just took the felt off for sake of the picture. It seems weird that the stand is complete with the shaft potentially sawing away at the bottom cymbal. I guess some innovations are a whole lot more obvious in hindsight.

Yeah, I understand when you first see it that you would think oh it's missing the washer, but remember the Hihat stand was still fairly new at this time even!!

You could put a rubber thing on it in order to keep it from touching the metal. You know, the ones like you use for your other cymbal stands.

An 8mm cymbal sleeve with a flanged base seems to work pretty well, but I've also got an 1123 carcass and the top half (with sleeve and tilter) is an easy swap.
