VistaLite BD Travel Worries (On a barely used kit!) Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Loading...

I found a 1975 VistaLite (Black/Trans) barely used at a music store this weekend - a couple hours later I returned with a deposit. - But I'm worried if the vintage spurs will allow bass drum travel : I'm heavy with my foot.

Is there an after-market spur to replace the rubber feets?

I need the bass drum to stay put - without rug implants - or drilling.

I've only heard velcro on the foot pedal helps -

Thanks!

P.S.

The Classic Ludwig VistaLite Setup I Just Scored:

Original Rocker heads all around

Ludwig Stands, Speed King Pedals (BD & HH),

and The Ludwig case for all the hardware

14 Acrolite snare w/ 14,15,18,24

Black/Trans

The tag sad 1974, -I think it might be a 75 (color?)

The heads have very little wear - a lady brought it in from her storage of 30+ years

I guess she walked out with a digital drum set for her kid

Yeah, if your bass drum pedal has a plate on the bottom, and you cover it with the "hook" side (the plastic, non-felt side) of velcro, it's going nowhere--AS LONG AS you're on carpet.

Carpet is cheap enough for you to make up a cheap drum rug.

My spurs mainly serve to level the kick...

Current gigging set:
Recent Ludwig Accent 13/16/18/26, (in Silver Sparkle), "updated" 70's Acrolite with cast batter hoop and Trick strainer/butt

Cymbals:
Zildjian K Custom Ride, Dream (Bliss and Contact) crashes and hats, and a Sabian Swish/China.

Other stuff:
60's Ludwig Champagne Sparkle "Traveler's Club Date", under construction. Click Here
70's Acrolite (under RE-construction)
Two 1960's mahogany 32" Ludwig bass drums with Imperial lugs.

As a point of comparison, I have had no trouble with bass drum creep using my 26 inch Vistalite BD with my speed king pedal. If you do start to experience some movement, you can pick up a ludwig bass drum anchor for around 30 bucks i believe. Good luck and great kit!

If the big spurs are like the small one then just take the rubber feet off. The spurs should be pointy under there. If all else fails, I've used a small piece of rope tied to the second T-rod from the bottom on one side, then around the post of my throne (legs of my barstool), then to the second T-rod from the bottom on the other side. If the bass drum goes anywhere it means that you're going with it!
