Good ideas here ... if it were me, I'd look for some wood hoops and replace the inlay in them. Or have the originals replated/chromed (but yeah that would be spendy).

That cleaned up drum looks very good.

I took ogre's advice a little ****her....

I wirebrushed one of the bass hoops with my drill attachment to get as much flaking chrome & rust off as possible, sprayed it with a coat of rustoleum "rust reformer" & then finished it with semi-gloss appliance epoxy. pretty pleased with the result, time will tell if the epoxy chips & I need to go wood - but for now $14 for 2 rattle cans looks to work pretty well.

yeah, that looks good. I might give that a go one day. It's pretty frustrating trying to get those old metal hoops to look ok when they are rusty. This is the answer.

And, that's a good idea! I've used the appliance epoxy on a 'fridge that had been in a fire. It worked great, as I see it worked on the hoops.

A solution I used once on badly rusted T-Rods and claws was chrome paint, allowed it to dry a couple days, then high gloss clear lacquer. It doesn't look perfect, but it works until you can find the correct parts in better shape.

Great idea,I restored 2 Star sets with metal hoops so rusty they looked like they came off the Titanic. Pulled the inlays off, sanded, primed and painted, inlays back on and here's the results.

I think I seen a guy nearby that had the matching snare..!

I believe there are very clean lugs and hoops for your rack tom still up at The Village Drum and Music on ebay. I know because I cleaned em up. :)

Took some stock maple hoops, had inlay cut, painted up... look like new. Replaced the rusted metal ones on my Y Badge C-200 kit.

Yes, at first I was interested and was going to have my brother in law who lives not to far from Williamsport try to go and get it but it just didn't work out. I'm glad someone from the forum got it. Looks like your doing a great job. They really are labor of love. Have you found a matching snare yet? I know there was one on eBay recently but the price was crazy!
