So i believe this is a chrome over brass - however i've been told otherwise. Many of the power v snares didn't have the ridge on top and bottom - plus a magnet acts the same on this drum as it does my cob dynas. Very little attraction which would be from the faint chrome plating? Otherwise, this would be a steel drum. Either way, she's heavy! Sounds great and would make a killer work horse
