Vintage Tear Drop Lugs.... Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hello All,

I'm in need of help with the identification of some lugs (tear drop style I believe).

My latest random parts lot acquisition included a dozen or so single-ended lugs that I THOUGHT (at first glance) were a vintage Premier design. I just got around to verifying the model only to find they do not match anything in the old Premier catalogs. Next, I turned to skimming catalogs from other old British (Olympic, Ajax, Carlton, Dallas, etc.) and German (Sonor, Trixon, Deri, Tacton, etc.) drum companies.

I could find no match to any of those companies' lug designs in the available references either. Also, I don't believe that these are "MIJ" parts because they're fairly heavy duty and have raised bosses for shell-mounting.

As of now, I'm stuck without any other ideas as to the origin of these components. If anyone can offer additional insight or information on the identification of this lug design I would be very grateful.

Links to photographs are provided below.

Thank you and best regards,

Chris Gervais

Hello,

Thank you very much for the input and sharing your photo!

Those are most definitely the same style of lug as mine. The fact that your snare isn't badged hints at a "MIJ" origin. However, the overall quality in construction would be kind of atypical if that is the case.

I will poke around and look at "MIJ" designs again.

Again, I appreciate the input.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Hello,

Thanks for the reference!

I did have a look at the 1978 Yamaha catalog scan as you suggested. However, those lugs aren't the same design.

I appreciate your taking the time to post all the same though! It was definitely worth a look.

Hello Christian,

Thank you very much for the lead!

I'm in the process of looking up Dutch & Belgian drum companies. So far I've found three of them; Royal (Netherlands), Sonorus, and Marius Renatus (Belgian).

Royal and Sonorus have some models with similar lugs but not an exact match. There was another company from (at one time) East Germany that had lugs which were close as well. Their ancestry apparently sprang from Sonor but they became a separate concern when the iron curtain fell.

This has been a tough nut to crack although the more I try to research the origin of my parts it seems to me that the lugs are derived from vintage Sonor lugs.

I still need to message the gentleman you mentioned though. Hopefully, he can help me with some definitive info on these lugs.

In any case, I very much appreciate your taking the time to share information with me. Thanks again!

Best regards,

Chris Gervais

Do you mean Tacton? If so...i don´t think the had lugs like these! But you can try also Father42-George knows a lot of the East german companys.

STAR did something similar but i don´t think these are STAR!

Best of luck
