Vintage stops in LA/NYC

Loading...

I'm in LA end of this week then off to NYC than back briefly to LA before coming back to Sydney. Apart from obvious stuff like Steve Maxwell's NYC shop and the "vintage light" showings at the Hollywood Pro Drum Shop (still one of my fave drum stops) is there anything else in either city, particularly LA, I should be checking out?

Camco stuff my priority - even LA stuff (which you'd think was at least more plentiful in LA).

Sadly time is comparatively limited so can't be doing too many major expeditions.

You'd be extremely lucky to find any Camcos on the floor at Pro Drum or Chad Sextons Drum City in Burbank, the two actual drum shops in town. You could check out Sam Ash on Sunset. They have a drums only store but without time to research the other sources, craigslist/ebay it's more likely you'd be struck by lightening than stumble on those items. Just sayin'.

Great vintage stuff in there and heaps of old hardware and parts.

Definitely worth a visit.

Good call. Heard about it but haven't been in there yet.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic enough to think I'd fall over any Camco stuff in a shop (and certainly not at any price that I could afford) - more just curious to know about what shops might be around that I wasn't aware of......

I'll hit CL and ebay just before I leave - my two main Camco kits were picked up in LA more or less that way. You never know.

Thanks for the shop tips - there were a couple there I didn't.

I did actually see a fairly rare 20" x 18" Camco Chanute floor tom at the Pro Drum Shop last time....prohibitively expensive, of course.

Main Drag Music in Williamsberg Brooklyn has nice vintage stuff at pretty reasonable prices as well. Check out their website for address and info.
