Vintage Pro-mark Thumper bass drum beater questions

Loading...

I just got this beater on a bass drum pedal . I am told these were from the 60's but do not remember them at all . It looks like it has had very little if any use . I know Danmar makes one very similar to this now . Are these from the 60s and who here used or uses one ? Are they sought after at all ?

Thanks in advance .

I used that same Promark Thumper beater for many years back in the 60's. I first used it when I was playing Flat Jacks with a Rogers Swivomatic bass drum pedal. I bent the rod into a curved shape so that the beater made a full face hit on the drum head. That same beater also worked very well on my conventional bass drums. If the rod is not bent, only the top edge of the pedal would hit the head.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Agree with leedybop here as i also used the same square beaters on both my Rogers bass drums in the late 60`s.I also had to bend the rod to make full beater contact. The idea was to get more punch out of the bass drum with more beater contact to the head, thus the square beater concept.I used them for about ten years and still have both of mine and they haven`t had any compressed felt wear at all.As leedybop did...i used mine with swivo-matic pedals and loved them.I don`t know if they are sought after but yours is the first one i`ve seen since the 70`s so originals may be on the scarce side. Thanks for posting this thread as it sure brought back some good ol` memories...Will be interesting to see if any other members used these?

I now use this beater. It pivots. So, once the first hit is made, every ensuing hit is a full face hit. I use a moleskin patch for an impact pad. Note, the trnsition model Swivo pedal with the self-contained hoop clamp. This immediately preceded the Supreme pedal. if memory servs me right, both this pedal and the Supreme were available for a little while.

ProMark also made a triangular version of this beater. I used one for a couple of years in the late 60's.

I recall it being lighter in weight than a conventional beater. I, too, bent the shaft to give the beater full contact with the head.
